ABOUT LEARNING TOOLS

Learning Tools caters for the educational needs of primary and pre-primary children.

Our customers are schools, occupational and speech therapists, and parents interested in the tuition and mental development of their children.

The owner, Sarah Ohlson de Fine, is a qualified teacher who is particularly interested in the processes of learning through play. She strives to supply "the best of the breed” games which promote learning in the areas of reading and maths. Sarah sources these products locally and Internationally, and personally vets everything she sells for both quality and efficacy.

LANGUAGE RESOURCES

Learning Tools offers two language resources to help jump start learners with a second language. Conversation Station and Viva Vocab have been developed by teachers specifically to help learners in the art of critical thinking and vocabulary across four South African languages, namely Afrikaans, English, isiXhosa and Zulu. This video highlights the issues facing our teachers in the classroom and how these resources can be used to help them teach our children to think critically and develop their vocabulary in an interactive and fun way.

For years, the popular methodology for learning a second language has been to focus on grammar and sentences first and then on vocabulary. Recently, however, many teachers have realised that learning vocabulary first, leads to an easier transition into the second language. Learning grammar and how to construct sentences is easier once the learner has a reasonable base of vocabulary to draw on.

African Voice resources are developed specifically for the South African education sector and all learning tools are focused on expanding the range of resources in mother tongue languages available to educators. These locally produced products are the first in what will soon be a comprehensive selection of world class language and literacy tools created by African Voice for South African school children and teachers. African Voice currently offers two educational resources that are designed to facilitate critical thinking and help with second language acquisition. The rationale is that the same resource can be used for the younger children (aged 5 – 7) in mother tongue, and then in the older learners (aged 9 – 12) in the second language.
