Pop for Sight Words
Practice key sight words recognition with this entertaining grab-and-go game!
Pop for Sight Words is an excellent early reading game. This game focuses on Sight Words which are an essential component to learning to read. Sight Words are high frequency words that occur in text. These are words that children will not be able to decode (spell out to get the word), they are words the child needs to know. The child needs to look at the word, and say it!
Learning Sight Words can be tedious. Pop for Sight Words is an excellent game through which children can practice their Sight Words, in a fun, fast paced game. Pop for Sight Words is an ideal game for reinforcing the high frequency sight words the young reader is learning. Through playing this game, you will help the child increase their reading fluency.
Watch out for the ‘POP’ pieces in this fast-paced early literacy practice game!
What is nice about this game is the strongest reader is not necessarily going to be the winner. The Pop pieces can come up at any time, so everyone is at the same risk of losing their cards.
How to Play
Place the Popcorn box in the middle of the table. Each child takes has a turn to take a piece of popcorn from the box and read the sight word aloud.
If you read the word correctly, you keep the popcorn piece
If you don’t read the word correctly – the piece goes back into the box.
The first reader to get 5 (or any number) of words correct is the winner
But watch out for the “Pop” pieces!! If you pull a piece of popcorn from the box and it says “Pop” – you place ALL your saved pieces back into the box.
This game includes 92 of the most common Sight Words required for the Foundation Phase of schooling. There are also 8 Pop cards per box. The box measures 8cm W x 15cm H.
The game is ideally played with between 2 – 6 people, but more can play if necessary.
There are many games in the Pop series of products. An excellent addition is Pop for Rhyming, which focuses on rhyming words. Look out for Pop for Sight Words 2 for the next Sight Word instalment. There is also Pop for Blends, and Pop for Word Families which are a little more advanced for the slightly older child.
